Destruction of Kopli Cemetery
The conversion of Kopli Cemetery into a park removed visible traces of an older Tallinn burial ground.
The historic cemetery at Kopli held memories of several Tallinn communities, including Baltic Germans. During the Soviet period grave markers were removed and the grounds remade as a park. The greenery today does not mean the land has no earlier history: lost names and boundaries remain an unseen layer. The present park alone cannot establish the extent of burials or any removals. Compare older plans with today’s paths to see how remaking public space can change the ways people remember the dead.
