Deportation Route from Baltic Station
Forced journeys of deportation from Balti jaam took many people away from home into uncertainty.
Deportation did not end with the moment of arrest. At Tallinn’s main railway station people boarded trains without knowing when they might return or what would happen to loved ones left behind. An ordinary platform became, through state coercion, a boundary between home and an unknown destination. Deportations occurred at different times, and each individual journey needs its own record or testimony. The station’s everyday use today does not lessen that history.
