Kopli Cemetery
The destruction and conversion of Kopli Cemetery into a park erased much of the visible burial memory of Baltic German families.
Kopli Cemetery was connected for centuries to Tallinn families, particularly the Baltic German community. During the Soviet period grave markers were destroyed and the historic burial ground was remade as a park. Today’s greenery can conceal that change, but the park retains the history of a cemetery. Destroying the stones also removed names and family ties from the visible record of the city.
