Great Guild Hall
The Great Guild Hall brought together merchant wealth, urban influence and strict rules of belonging.
The Great Guild Hall on Pikk Street was the meeting place of wealthy merchants. They held assemblies and feasts, made connections and defended shared interests here. Its grand hall and facade made the guild’s standing visible across town. That influence also rested on limits to membership: many people who worked in the city were excluded from the elite. The building reveals both the splendour and the closed doors of the merchant city.
