Ruins of Pirita Convent
The ruins of Pirita Convent recall a major Bridgettine complex whose life was broken during the Livonian War.
The Bridgettine convent near the Pirita River was once a remarkable religious and architectural complex. Destruction during the Livonian War left high walls and empty window openings through which the sky is now visible. The scale of the ruins suggests the size of the lost church; their emptiness speaks of the interruption of its life. The site holds both the ambition of the convent and the long afterlife of war in the landscape.
