St Michael’s Convent
St Michael’s Convent was a walled centre of religious, educational and communal life for women.
St Michael’s Convent in the Suur-Kloostri area gave women a place within an organised religious community. Its walls offered protection but also drew a boundary between convent and city. Prayer, learning, household management and ties to influential families met in daily life here. The Reformation ended the old order, yet the buildings and street name still preserve a trace of this women’s community.
