Dominican Monastery
The surviving Dominican Monastery preserves traces of medieval preaching, study and the upheaval of the Reformation.
The Dominican monastery on Vene Street was part of Tallinn’s medieval intellectual and religious life. The friars preached, studied and lived under a shared rule while the merchants’ daily business continued nearby. The Reformation brought the old monastic life to an end and changed the buildings. Surviving passages and stone walls reveal both the former complex and the break in its history. Here stillness and upheaval stand side by side.
