St Nicholas Orthodox Church

St Nicholas Orthodox Church recalls a community whose religious and trading ties reached beyond Tallinn’s walls.

St Nicholas Church is part of the varied religious history of Vene Street. The Orthodox congregation’s practices and feast days differed from the Catholic, and later Lutheran, traditions of much of the city. Yet this was no world apart from urban life: street, trade and neighbours connected its members to Tallinn every day. The church makes the city’s long-standing religious and linguistic diversity visible.
