Church of the Transfiguration
The Church of the Transfiguration has witnessed the end of a convent and the arrival of new forms of worship.
The church on Suur-Kloostri Street once belonged to St Michael’s Convent. After the convent period ended, both its users and religious affiliation changed. Today’s Orthodox church still retains physical traces of the earlier sacred site. The story of one building reaches beyond a single denomination or century: rites and names changed while much of the stone remained.
