The best-known legend of Rataskaevu 16 tells of a devil’s wedding witnessed through a forbidden crack in the door.
According to legend, a mysterious stranger rented an upper floor for one night and demanded that no one observe the celebration. A curious servant broke the rule and glimpsed a supernatural wedding through the door, but paid for the secret with his life. This is folklore rather than documented history, yet it has transformed an ordinary façade into one of the most haunting addresses in Tallinn’s Old Town.
