Closed Rooms of Pirita Olympic Centre
Behind the Pirita Olympic Centre’s public face are the service and technical spaces needed by a major sporting venue.
Built for the Tallinn sailing events of the 1980 Olympics, the centre needed separate routes for competitors, organisers, guests and technical staff. Some corridors and plant rooms were therefore outside a spectator’s view. This layout reveals the logistics of a large event; it does not, by itself, prove a network of secret passages. Later uses have changed access again. See the building as a working architectural system of which visitors encounter only one part.
