The Bloody Labour History of Dvigatel Factory

Dvigatel’s industrial history is also the story of workers whose demands and conflicts helped shape Tallinn.

The Dvigatel works, associated with railway industry, became a major employer. Large-scale production brought rules, long working routines and moments when economic and political tensions reached the factory gates. Accounts of strikes or violence need a specific date and source: the dramatic wording of a title does not establish one particular massacre inside the building. Industrial history includes workers’ safety, pay and organising as well as management decisions and output.
