Russian-Baltic Shipyard
The Russian-Baltic Shipyard shaped not only Kopli’s industry but the neighbourhood built around its workers.
The yard established for the imperial Russian navy required a large workforce, extensive buildings and links to the rest of Tallinn. Kopli grew alongside its factories: production, housing and daily services formed an interconnected landscape. A gate separated the workplace from the street, but the yard’s influence extended well beyond it. Later uses of the area may hide older boundaries. In the surviving industrial setting, look at both the navy’s ambitions and the families living beside the works.
