Seaplane Hangars at Seaplane Harbour
The Seaplane Harbour’s concrete hangars were built to protect aircraft when control of sea and sky formed one military strategy.
Seaplanes required a base open to the water and spacious shelter. The hangars’ ambitious reinforced-concrete structure made possible a vast interior, its scale still revealing the military project behind it. Today the maritime museum fills the same shell, using a former military space to interpret naval technology and history. Look at the hangars as both an engineering achievement and military infrastructure, without replacing their documented story with imagined air raids.
