Battle of Tondi in 1924
Cadets resisted an attack on the Tondi military school during the attempted coup of December 1924.
On 1 December 1924 communist insurgents attempted to seize power in Estonia, attacking several sites including the military school at Tondi. The cadets’ resistance and the memory of those killed became symbols of the defence of the independent state. The fighting at Tondi was part of a broader series of events across Tallinn, rather than an isolated battle. On the street today, distinguish the events of that morning from later commemorations, and place the school within the wider history of the attempted coup.
