Corridors of Power at Kadriorg Palace
Behind Kadriorg Palace’s splendid reception rooms stood the everyday labour that kept an imperial residence running.
The palace is often viewed through its façade, grand rooms and rulers. Yet its operation also depended on people preparing spaces, moving goods, maintaining the building and guiding visitors. Separating service work from courtly display helped create an impression of power. “Corridors of power” invites a question here: who could move in public view, and whose work stayed out of sight? Without building plans and the museum’s interpretation, no particular passage should be advertised as a secret servants’ route.
