Harju Gate Hill Café and Caves
Park life on Harjumägi and the passages of a former bastion form two very different layers of one place.
The Harju Gate earthworks lost their military purpose, and a public recreation area developed on and around them. Stories of a park cafe and social gatherings sit beside the history of the bastion’s banks and passages. Neither layer cancels the other: the site served both defence and leisure. Relating a particular cafe to a specific underground room would require a historical plan. The hill visible today is the work of several periods.
