Walled-Up Doors in the City Wall
Blocked openings in the wall on Laboratooriumi Street can reveal changes in how Tallinn’s defences were used.
The city wall did not keep one form for every century. Passages, openings and firing positions changed with defensive needs, later buildings and repairs. A walled-up arch raises a question: was it once a door, an opening for defence or another structural feature? A glance from the street cannot settle that. Masonry and building records offer better answers. Even without a final identification, the sealed stonework shows a wall with a changing life.
