Harjuoru Mass Grave from the March Bombing
The Harjuoru burial story calls for distinguishing the victims of the 1944 bombing from an unverified precise grave location.
After the March bombing, those found in the ruins had to be identified and buried amid severe damage to Tallinn. Placing the reported collective burial at Harjuoru precisely requires burial records or a historic plan. Without them, a particular patch of present-day ground cannot be labelled a confirmed grave. That uncertainty does not make the loss abstract: every identified or unknown victim was someone’s loved one, not merely a line in bombing statistics.
