The Tallinn Plague of 1710
The plague of 1710 struck Tallinn amid the Great Northern War and killed a large share of its residents.
In 1710, siege, food shortages and plague converged in Tallinn. Disease did not choose a political side: townspeople and soldiers were at risk. Heavy mortality rapidly reduced families, labour and the city’s capacity to function. The surrender of the city and the epidemic belong to the same historical rupture, but no single Old Town map point can represent all those affected. The scale of a disaster once felt in nearly every household is hard to see in today’s streets.

Consider the Old Town as a whole when thinking about the crisis of 1710. The map point cannot provide local victim counts.
