Skoone Bastion
Skoone Bastion is a vast earthwork whose military purpose gave way to leisure and city life.
Skoone Bastion near Rannamäe Road was designed when the old city wall alone could no longer meet the threat of newer weapons. Its earthworks and shape were intended to channel attacks and protect the town. Later it lost its military role and became part of a landscape of recreation and entertainment. A grassy rise may look like a natural hill, though it conceals carefully planned defences and later layers of use.
