Assauwe Tower
Assauwe Tower did not vanish without a trace: its masonry became part of later buildings on Müürivahe Street.
Assauwe Tower shows that the disappearance of a fortification did not always mean the removal of every stone. Once the tower had lost its defensive role, later construction could incorporate its walls. On Müürivahe Street, the old structure is a layer within the built environment rather than a separate tower standing beside the road. Here the later city literally grew into its former defences.
