Golden Leg Tower
Kuljala Tower guarded a stretch of wall near Gümnaasiumi Street; the meaning of its old name remains uncertain.
Kuljala Tower belonged to the chain of towers that turned the city wall into a line of observation and defence. Its rounded form gave defenders a better view along the wall than a straight curtain alone. The name has survived, although its origin cannot now be explained with certainty. That missing detail is a reminder that the wall also preserves traces of people and place names whose stories have faded.
