The New Almshouse

The present Swedish St Michael’s Church was built in 1531 as the New Almshouse hospital.

The building on Rüütli Street was erected in 1531 for the New Almshouse. It cared for poor and sick people when a hospital combined treatment, shelter and welfare. In the 17th century the building was converted into the Swedish St Michael’s Church.
