The House for the Apparently Dead

A house near the Baltic Station received people believed dead before their burial.

Fear of premature burial led to the establishment of a house for the apparently dead beside the area of today’s Baltic Station Market. Bodies were observed there for a period before burial. After the railway station opened, the district changed and the building was later associated with a tavern and brothel. The building has disappeared; the marker denotes its historical location.
